Breeding Trio, first year

repti341 Jan 06, 2007 01:05 PM

I have a male I am breeding with 2 females. What would be the best way to approach this task? Do I place all three of them in the same cage or rotate the male? How long? My day temp is 85 Degrees and it drops down to 75 at night. Some breeders say that's about right but I know some of you go much colder. Is that Okay or do I need to adjust the temp? This is my first season of breeding and I have received some advice from other breeders but they each use different methods that work for them which leaves me a little confused on what to do. I would like to figure this stuff out this year so I don't make any bad mistakes when I breed my het Pieds next year. What do you guys think? Thank you for taking the time to read this post and I wish the best of luck to all of you in 2007.

Rotate the male. One week with one lady, one week with the next, two weeks off, or one week with a lady, week of rest, one week with the next lady, week of rest, etc. Once you start putting him in with the ladies you'll get a feel for how 'tired' he gets and you'll know if he needs a longer break or if he's good to go to the next gal. When in doubt, give him an extra few days of rest.

And an idea to convince your wife to get more herps - hey, they don't make half the noise a conure can. ESPECIALLY if it's a sun conure. :D

Im not the most experienced but have learned alot!
This is what has worked for me this season........Ambient room temp is around 75-80 controlled by radient heater with thermostat.......Using 11in flexwatt in a rack with tubs.During off season flex watt is set to 95 24/7 Breeding started sep 1---Night temps are lowered to 70-75 ambient and flexwatt is lowered to 85. I slowly lengthen the night cycle until I reach 12 hrs at 95 and 12 hrs at 85 . After 2-3 weeks males are inroduced to females for 5 days a week and fed and rested on the weekends.Food is offered some eat some dont ! Males usually dont ..Witnessed forst copulation oct 18.
