Pet frog question

Wolfson Jan 06, 2007 03:16 PM

I have a pet frog that I raised from a Tadpole. When he was a tadpole, I kept him in my aquarium with my fish and he always ate sinking frog pellets. Now that he's a full frog, he has his own tank, half water half land.

The problem I'm having is he doesn't seem to be eating anymore. I've tried crickets twice and I just find them dead in the tank after a few days.

Also, I don't even know what kind of frog this is, so I'm not sure what kind of food he likes. I've included a few photos, if anyone can identify what kind it is.

Thanks.

i can't tell what kind of frog it is from the pic. are you using a UVB/UVA bulb? bullfrogs and other frogs from the Rana family need it. also, what are your temps, they should be about 75F water, warm side about 85F, and never below 65F. also, you have to try a lot more than two times if you want to get an animal to eat. try different food items, like roaches, meal/wax worms, earthworms, ants, spiders ect. whatever you can find, if you raised it from a tad it will eat just about anything. good luck!

it looks to be a bullfrog or green frog. it is big enough that its tail should be gone and it should start looking for food, so i would suggest putting a couple or rosie red feeder fish of adequate size in the water section to see if it will eat them. you can also find a open place in the tank, like a flat rock, a put a earthworm, also of adequate size on the rock near him, stand back from the tank, and see what happens.

Thanks for all the help! I tried the crickets one more time, and about ten seconds after dropping them in the frog ate three of them. So it's finally eating at least, which makes me feel better. I also have some meal worms in there for it, should it want something different to eat.

Thanks again for all the help.
