BCI Problems!

reptilicus81 Jan 06, 2007 03:24 PM

My brother is 22 years old and has had a male BCI for about 3 years now. He is 4-5 years old and around 5 feet long, he is probably not much more than 3 pounds. My male dumerils is larger! The problem with my brother is that he rarely feeds and maintains this animal. He has it in a large custom enclosure with proper heat (thanks to me), but the animal strikes at everything and is very aggressive. I've tried to buy it off him, and find it a good home, but he refuses to (he thinks he is too mean). I don't live with him currently, but if I were to try and rehab this animal, what are the odds that its temperment issues would improve with a proper feeding schedule?

Thanks!

His temperament problem is more than likely from lack of handling and not necessarily from lack of feeding. If he is in a large custom enclosure and never gets messed with, then even if he is fed a lot he still might be aggressive.

We have a number of males that are 3 - 4 years old and under or around 5 lbs. They are not starving, and are well muscled little breeding machines. They are not aggressive at all, because we handle them often.

I am not saying that your brother couldn't be taking better care of his snake, because he probably could be, just that its aggression MIGHT not be because it is hungry. Then again... maybe it is.

He is not in horrible condition, but he could fatten up. I am afraid you are probably right as far as temperment goes. We had a mexican kingsnake who would stike at you constantly as an adult, and if he hit you he would chew at your hands...there was no amount of food that would change that I guess we'll have to wait and see!

Thanks!
