Hey, I'm curious if anyone has any information regarding the toxicity levels of the venom on a mangrove snake, so far the information I've been able to find is very limited, and conflicting in places. I'm just curious.

The actual venom itself is very toxic, however the delivery system is not very good so you end up with a snake that is not very dangerous as far as venomous go. I would still do my best to avoid a bite just because of the chance of an allergic reaction. I kept one for a couple years and it was a great snake (wishing now i hadnt sold it) A pair of leather gloves and a long sleeve shirt are really all you need.
Good luck

yeah, I'm interested in possibly getting ahold of one someday. It actually isn't their temper or venom that I'm worried about, it's their size and humidity requirements that has me worried, plus the fact that most of them I've seen have been WC, and from what I've read they can be really tough to acclimate. Do you know of anyone who breeds them? Thanks.
Kevin
I dont know anyone who breeds them. I bought mine as a fresh wc and I treated it with flagyl and panacur and it ate about a week later and never stopped. They are awesome snakes and if I have a chance to either get the one I sold back or get another one I'll do it in a second.

yeah, they seem like really fascinating animals...if you don't mind me asking, what kind of a setup did you put yours in? I'm thinking something huge and vertical. Also, did yours ever settle down? I've heard of some becoming dogtame, but I think that's the exception rather than the rule.
Kevin
I kept mine in a cage that was 4Lx2Dx2T. I had tons of branches and a large water dish and a couple hides including an elevated one which it seemed to prefer.
It also wouldnt come out during the day...and I mean never ever would come out during the day, as soon as the lights went off out it came.
I never tried to calm it down, it seemed to hate being handled so I rarely did it. Only when I need to clean the cage.

I only have an LTC male that is pretty tame. A theory I've heard a few times with imports of various species is that a few imports tame down because of the handling they went thru with flagyl, panacur, and various other antiparasitic medications. Opposite theory fits for my LTC Leiopython tho.
