Hi everyone!

I'm not usually on the venemous forum, mostly because, well, I'm a baby and like my snakes nonvenemous

However, I have an interesting request:

My dad plays in a band called "The Vipers". They play surf music, some soft rock, and some oldies. My dad's asked my help in designing a "band shirt", with a viper on the back. I've been googling "viper" without much success. For some strange reason this blue car keeps coming up...

My request is: Post your viper pictures! Pit viper, gaboon viper, viper-that-I-didn't-know-existed, ALL of em! Post em just to show off your babies, but if you don't mind me using the image to base the shirt design off of please mention that when you post.

If anyone's got some good striking pictures, I'd absolutely love to see those too.

And, a quick question: Are cobras in the viper family? My dad seemed to think so, but I thought they had their own family.

Thanks to any and everyone who posts!

Use Google Image Search and type in this:

viper -dodge

It will return all things "viper" that do NOT include "Dodge"

Vipers are viperidae

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viperidae

Cobras are elapidae

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elapidae

Check out our collection in the gallery on our website at www.houstonherp.com for pics of both.

I did try google image search minus the car, but I wasn't particularly impressed with the results.

From what I've seen on the other snake forums, the best place to find good pics is from people who own/breed their animals, as they want to portry their snakes in the best/coolest way possible.

Thanks for the links though!

You'll probobly get better results from google by searching by a specific viper like gaboon or rino viper. Otherwise your probobly going to have to weed your way through a bunch of ugly cars.
A sqaum or eyelash would be cool..

Did you check our gallery?

(See previous post)

I actually could not find the gallery.

I did find a nice picture of an orange "squam" (squam being the only name for the species I could find), and used that to base the design off of.

This is draft one:

When I get it cleaned up in photoshop and the colors added in (there will be a stripe of black and a thinner stripe of yellow, kinda like...I think they're called the pope viper? The green ones with a red and white stripe down the side in the males.) I'll post that too, if anyone's interested.

Thanks again!

Oh. I went to "www.houstonherp.com". I'd wondered about the "carnivorous plant sale".

My blonde moments have been increasing in frequency lately...

I'm lookin through your gallery and I saw your baby ball (cute, by the way)... I'm wondering where you got the information about "the average male reaching 2 to 3 feet".
That's about a foot or two off. Average males are 3-4 feet, females 3.5-5 feet. Females are usually larger than males when adult. (I quote "The Complete Ball Python" by Kevin McCurley when I say average length is 3-4 feet)

I've honestly never seen a mature, adult (4 years) ball python that was less than 4 feet.

Just thought I'd put that out there.

Here is a pic I took that I use as my avatar on other sites. It prints out well too. I usually crop it a bit for the avatar. If you like it feel free to use it.

Here is the smae pic worked over a bit by a friend of mine using phtoshop to crop and bring out some detail. I am not very good with photo shop yet. I tried to resize this image but it comes out distorted. I will see if my buddy can crop the original, bring out some detail, but leave the size alone. I have some other "viper" pics that I feel came out well but I think this one would be great for what you want one for. Let me know if you like it.

That's a great picture, and it's actually something I'm debating using for my watercolor class.

However, after my list of links to pictures and a request to pick one, he told me more about the requirements of the shirt - one color (each additional color is an extra charge), and a simple, stylistic design, preferably involving fangs. I was a bit grumpy these things weren't mentioned before.

Thank you to everyone who responded! I'll post up a picture of the final design, and if/when the shirt does get made, I'll post a picture of that too. Thanks again everyone!
