Phases
There are many phases, specialized types of Leopard Geckos available from the captive bred. These are Leopard Geckos that have been selectively bred to result in specific colors and patterns. Some of these types are specified by the original breeder who began to produce the strain. This is how I understand it so far and will get more accurate eventually. Very few geckos are actually mis-catagorized, more often they are "Het's" but it can all still be a bit confusing at first, especially with this added in.
Patterns
Bald - Usually on a Hypo, the top of the head is one solid color.
Circle Back - There is a perfect spot on the back, usually of yellow surrounded by black.
Designer - Bold patterns such as jungle types.
Hypo - Spots on the tail and head but the body is patternless, one color, usually yellow.
Jungle - Bold patterns of black swirls and splotches in particular.
Normal - Usually completely spotted of dark against light or "peppered". Most of the others categorized into normal appear to be of a standard four dark patterns across the back from neck to between the back legs, with a white "neck tie". Such as my gecko Missy, who's a chocolate phase.
Patternless - Completely one color with no, or very little spotting anywhere.
Saddle Back - The dark color (black) that begins at the shoulder blades bulbs down the sides to about midsection. It's like a near stripe or U-shape from the neck.
Stripe - There is a complete light color streak across the back from shoulders to tail. The width of the stripe is very varied but still ligit as long as it extends from the neck to the length of the tail or at its base. Just tail stripe would be specified too.
Reverse Stripe - Same long streak but as a dark color against light or yellows. Or rather, an opposing color to the gecko's base yellows.
Colors
I should note here, just for the heck of it, that the geckos also have green in their pigmentation that can be apparent in the lighter and albino.
Albino - Coloration appears faded or pastel
Carrot Tail - Usually on a hypo, the tail contains a high, dark, carrot-orange, normally at the base.
Chocolate - Often describes a near melanistic, dark colors, black mostly a deep brown.
High Yellow - Sun bright yellows, often deep but not usually the burnt amber found in chocolates and melanistic.
Lavender - A blue/gray steel "lavender"
Melanistic - Mostly dark colors, from chocolate tan patterns to a "burnt amber" and sort of off-vanilla.
Snow - Black peppered or patterned against white.
Tangerine - A much more orangy yellow than high-yellow
