smoking

anafranil Jan 07, 2007 05:05 AM

Hi,this might be the dumbest question ever but I would like to hear ANY comments. In my bedroom I keep a veiled cham,a phelsuma,a leopard gecko and an aquarium..so far so good, the problem is that I'm a heavy smoker and from time to time I feel very guilty entering my room looking at them and smelling that awful smell..I actually feel more sorry for them than I do for my lungs. All of them are in perfect condition and are taken cared really well.Any idea how nicotine effects reptiles? If it's not a big deal please do mention it.
Thanks for your time..

And kids don't start smoking,it effects both you and your pets, and your pocket...haha,and plenty more..

I personally wouldn't allow anyone to smoke in front of my pets. Put it this way they have tiny lungs so cannot tolerate the amount of smoke people can. It is selfish to make anyone inhale cigarette smoke especially children and animals.

maybe you could see if you can find really small nicotine patches for your chams so they can try to kick the habit. My roommate smokes in the house sometimes and it worries me too, and pisses me off. I have my cham in my bedroom though.

it's not a dumb question and not the first time someone has asked. As was pointed out their lungs are MUCH smaller than ours and they are getting 2nd hand smoke. I would strongly suggest either not smoking in your room, buying some sort of heavy duty air filter, open windows as much as possible, move your animals to a healthier part of the house - of course the best solution would be to quit. Not judging you (I smoked for over 20 years) but I would certainly make some sort of adjustments for your animals. You may have to bring your cham to the vet one day b/c he has a respiratory problem that just won't clear up - lung cancer in your little cham buddy?

btw, have always been intrigued the username you chose. Actually, mine would be a list of many! Maybe you can add the nicotine patch

Thanks for the advise,I'll make some sort of 'modifications',as for the username thank god science went a bit further the last 30 years or else we would have much more serious 'hobbies' to deal with than chams.Actually chams seem like luxury after all these years..

well there's something in our hobbie that attracts compulsions, that's true,in the end you don't know if your trying to keep your pet happy or to satisfy your own obsessions...
lele I am very glad to know that someone of our race persuits excellence in herp keeping.Being excelent is one of those few things that you keep as a souvenir from the days that are now past.Applying that excellence at herp keeping, that's honor..
