Morph mortality

rearfang Jan 07, 2007 08:22 AM

I recently expanded my collection to include some more "exotic" morphs. When an unexpected cold snap hit here several of the Balls fell ill with respiratory probs. The "Normals weathered it very well-responding to treatment. Even a ringer that developed a blockage and infection bounced back.

The only losses I had were among the fancy morphs (my pastels)that looked healthy and then died, which makes me suspect weak genetics.

Thoughts anyone?

Just from what I've seen I think Pastels are more prone to infection. I dropped my temps for breeding and now my Pastel is on Baytril. Everyone else was fine. Last year I had a Pastel die in my hands. I was devistated and worried about the rest of my snakes. All the rest of them were fine. One death was one too many. I still can't figure out the pastels have been a problem.
My temps and humidity were perfect. Well, best of luck to you.
