General Humidity and Misting Qx's

ski_rush Jan 07, 2007 05:53 PM

Hello all,

I had a couple of general questions about humidity and misting. I have a columbian boa and I am currently using ReptiBark as my substrate in a 20 gallon glass tank with flexwatt as a heat source. I have been misting the substrate and tank about twice a day, but the tank dries out pretty quick. So, I'm concerned about keeping the humidity up.

I was thinking about using moss and misting that too to maintain humidity. Has anyone had any luck with that? Are there better things I should be using to maintain humidity, e.g. a fogger, etc.

Also, about how often should I be misting the tank? Is twice daily not enough?

Thanks,
DJ

I was having the same problems with my glass aquariums. My solution was to put a larger water bowl in the tank, and cover 3/4's of the screen top with "Glad Cling Wrap". Leave some of the screen exposed for air exchange. Continue spraying the tank after this and you should see a dramatic increase in your humidity. If this fails you can create a "humidity hide". This is a common method using damp moss or even paper towels inside a small container as substrate. Cut a hole out of the side big enough for you snake to crawl through and put the lid on. This should create a concentrated humidity spot within the tank for you snake to access as needed. Hope this helps.
