Thinking about getting a Cyclura....Needing info.

BlkGryphon Aug 09, 2003 12:41 AM

Hi!

I am very interested in getting a Cyclura Iguana. I am leaning towards the lewisi hybrid but like the Cuban as well. I am more interested in personality than I am in coloring.

I have a beautiful and dare I say cuddly rescued male Green Iguana who I have been owned by for about 3 years. He is a free roamer and is tub trained for his "duties". He is not skittish and loves everyone that is willing to give head and chin/dewlap rubs. :0) I am very fortunate that he is laid back and does not go into breeding season crazies that some male green igs do. I am wanting this type of temperament in a Cyclura.

I am doing my "homework" so to speak and am wanting to hear other Cyclura owner's opinions and experiences about the care and personalities/temperaments of either the lewisi hybrids or the Cubans.

Any and all information will be greatly appreciated! I look forward to hearing from you all. BTW, thanks Carole for the email and for directing me to this forum. :0)

Welcome Naomi. Glad you found the place. I think you will find what you are looking for here.

I have to say my lewisi cross Tashmoo is very laid back. She was NOT when I first got her. I think I might have mentioned that to you in my email to you.

Every cuban I have seen or heard of has been ultra tame but Im sure there are exceptions to that "rule". When Tashmoo was having a hard time taming down I thought about getting a cuban instead after talking to a lot of people. Jane here is the one that convinced me to stick it out and it was sure worth it. She is very tame now and full of personality. I also cared more about that than about coloration.
