A couple of things that I have always...

EmberBall Jan 07, 2007 08:01 PM

wondered about:

1) Presales. Why would one do them, and why would someone pay for an animal, or at least put a deposit down on an animal that they might not ever get, or at least might not get for several months? Payment plan...might be one good reason I guess. Someone thinks they will have Morph A hatching in about 6 months, and you do not have the cash right now, so you put a deposit down and save up for a few months? OK, I guess I can see that. BUT, why not just keep the deposit money, and save up, and maybe get a better price once hundred of morph A's start hatching? UNLESS it is a Bannana Ball, or a one of a kind type morph, I just do not see the benifit to the buyer, and in my opinion, it just makes the seller look desperate for sales. Just my opinion. Am I missing the point? or missing an obvious benifit?

2)Gravid Females. The gravid females most often for sale are WC imported females. It seems the import process would be hard enough for a wc animal, much harder for a gravid one. Do some get gravid on the way, from males they are bunched in with? I am just asking the question, I do not know the import process. Do WC gravid females do well AFTER laying in captivity? Do most lay, not feed, and waste away? Any info on this topic is welcome.

Dave where have you been? Seems pretty quiet on here lately.

The pre-pays I don't get at all unless it's something that may be so "hot" that you want to lock in your chance to be the first one on your block to have one. Payment plans I understand though. For some people it is easier to lock themselves into a commitment and make that payment as aposed to trying to stick money under your mattress for the next couple of months. The wild caught thing I am not in favor of. If its not bad enough to take a single animal out of the wild, but now your taking them before they ever get a chance to replenish the wild populations. But is just my opinion.

pre-sales, for me if i know in advance that i'm going to get a certain that season. i will put a deposit down with a breeder that i know will have plenty to choose from. i like "pick of the litter" so to speak.

Don't know about question !, I don't/wouldn't do it that way!!

Question #2---I've heard gravid females don't lay good eggs!! I find the opposite, so far. I bought a couple gravids this year and all is going well!! No slugs, YET! All eggs are doing well. Gravid WC's, in my case, take African rats right after laying. I didn't/haven't tried regular rats, as I'm overrun with Africans. Talk about breeding machines!! I'm just wondering if I can get these WC's to breed this coming year!!!

BTW, the female is doing great!!

Glad to hear your female is doing well, shoot me pics when you produce the Pastel Clowns I will do the same when I breed the male to my Het Clown females.

The Sables are doing well, eating machines, and they are growing on me big time! Definately a morph that must be seen in person to appriciate.

I purchased a boa this past year, '06, before it was born. Why? Because it was a rare morph in high demand and I wanted to make sure that (1) I could get one, and (2) I would have first pick (other than the breeder). Glad I did too. When the litter was born the other females were spoken for before I even chose mine, he posted he was having "X" animals available and buyers jumped. I still got first pick. Had I waited, I would have not got the morph, especially not the one "I wanted".
Also, it worked out in my favor, the price for those other animals was higher than the previous year, because I had paid in advance I ended up getting the animal for the a price we had agreed on before the litter was born.

Sellers who advertise for this kind of sale I don't trust, but I was the one who initiated it with a breeder known for quality stock of the morph I wanted.
