Anton/Angelina's New Viv

MdngtRain Jan 07, 2007 08:44 PM

I piced up a 70g terrarium at the White plains show this weekend. Anton really loves all the extra space, but I think she may not need a roommate.

woopse! "not" is supposed to read "now"... though I'm not thinking of Alex as the roommate... I'm thinking another female gecko.

Might be the angle and I'm not seeing some bushy plant, but I would suggest adding a lot more leafy things if not. This is the one thing I notice is lacking in many crested enclosures. Sure, we may want to see them easier, but they are much safer and secure with plenty of places to hide and leaves to burrow through. They, after all, used to live in much denser vegetation. The enclosure should be much more jungle like, IMHO. Looks nice otherwise, but those neighbors are very nosey!

Thanks for the critique. I knew I needed more horizontal perches, but I think I spaced on the more veggitation. I was looking at some fake plants today at the pet store, but I am not a big fan of fake plants... Is there something pretty bushy that would fit into vive? (I'm wishing now I had gone with my first instinct to add another 3" to the bottom lip prior to planting it... it only can hold about 3" of substrate the way they built it).
Alex is quite the nosey pup. Anton's vive was supposed to fit on top of a wide filing cabinet we have, but I miscalculated the size... The vive will go up on to a table or stand at some point in the near future, but I have yet to find a suitable one that also matches our other furniture.
Any other suggestions to help make Anton more comfortable?

Just a thought, we have good luck with those fake vines with lots of leaves. (I think they are more intended for chameleons and such.) What is nice is you can simply coil part of it down on the ground and secure the rest for vertical or horizontal climbing space. They're not too expensive either, something you can use "in the meantime" of finding something better. Though- our gecko won't go more than a few feet from her plant when we take it out for cleaning... I think she's rather attached to it. Sounds like you are making a great enclosure to live in!
