Yes you may own venomous reptiles . Look under possession of a non game and exotic wild life permit all of the information is there i just looked and read the complete chapter . The rules are very strict.

im 16 years old and have been keeping herps for about 10 years now.gtp's arboreal lizards and other boids and im quite prepared and interested in pursuing vipers but i need to know if this is possible. my parents have a quaint knowldge of consequences when it comes to herps and trust my actions. I was reading the laws just sent to me and it states that you must run some sort of facility for zooilogical or medical purposes to keep these animals but im sure there are quite a few who keep them privately in their homes.

thanks for any input

Dont be in a big hurry to keep hots your 16 years old.You have a whole life ahead of you. Find some one to teach you go to school learn about your passion then master it.One mistake in this field could cost you your life.Until you are 18 or 21 it wont be legal anyway. If you ever make it to Texas my son and will take you on a hunt you wont ever forget. The only thing the law says in regard to keeping hots in NJ is you must prove you are qualified or a zoo or a institution. Good luck in your passion

You're going to have a hard trying to get a permit in NJ. Yes, there are private keepers, but none keep them legally. VERY difficult, if not impossible, to legally keep them there. Best thing to do is wait until you are of an appropriate age, get a mentor, and move to a hot friendly state, if there are any left, and if you still have the same passion in a few years.

Only zoos and other accredited intitutions can keep venomous legally. NJ will NOT issue a permit for the average keeper.
