An old question....

Boost Jan 07, 2007 10:02 PM

Ok I walk into one of the pet stores in the area, doing research on salamanders/newts. I come accross a trio of beautiful Texas Collareds, absolutely beautiful and they are around 8 months or so just a guess though. From the markings and weight on the 3 of them, 2 are female and one is male. Now these three are boucing around their cage, sitting on eachother, just having collared fun.

Now to my question, Is it safe to put an 8 month old collared in with Bonnie & Clyde, who are 2 years sometime this year???

another female? Is so I do not see why not. At 8 - 9 months old a female can already mate. Your 2 year old Male and female (Bonnie and Clyde) should be fine with it. (again providing it is a female.)

And you can just keep an eye on things , making sure the younger one is eating well, not being bullied in anyway.

Yes it would be one of the females providing that my thoughts on who are the 2 females in the cage are right as all 3 are roughly similiar in size.

The colouration on the beefier one is more pronounce with large splatters on it's head. The other two have less pronounced patterning on their heads and seem slighter than the one with large and darker splatters on it's head.

They all appeared active and very lively, though with Bonnie & Clyde in Brumation would it be too disruptive in putting in a new cagemate??

Thanks Eve

understand your last question Boost, would a new cage mate disrupt Bonnie and Cylde while in brumation, is what I think you asked.

Well the first thing is the new young lady should be kept seperate for a few weeks until you make sure she's okay (quarentine) If Bonnie and Clyde are sleeping and there are no lights on , you would not want to put the new one in there anyway . She would need lights and heat
(if you wanted to brumate her for a short time, you would still have to go through the process, stop feeding, then wait and turn off the heat, then wait and turn off uvb.)

I'm not real sure what you had in mind as far as where you were going to put the new female when you bring her home?

Lol, no need to worry I have an extra tank she can hang in, IF, I purchase a new cagemate for Bonnie and Clyde.

Yes, my question was about disruption in Brumation for the extra cagemate but that's been answered lol.

We shall see, I'm very impressed with the Texas Collared's colours.
