A Diamondback Terrapin (Malaclemys terrapin) had just finished laying eggs and was covering her nest.

on a great find. Hey Man it is so encouraging to see pics like that, what state are you in ? I have been looking in the Freeport and Anahuac vicinity of tx for one of these guys for yrs. Perhaps I should invest in a canoe or something, that might be more helpfull.
