I have a 23 inch ball python that I am thinking about building a new home for this summer. This is my first snake and I was wondering on the size of his new home. I was thinking 5 feet long x 3 feet wide x 2 feet heigh. I have read on the internet that the more space the better, but is that more space then he will be happy in? And what do you think the mimiumal size cage would be for an adult ball python?
Thanks

That is a rather large cage for a ball python, most are happy in something around a 35-40gal tank (about three feet long, 16" wide, 18" high). Most people keep ball pythons in simple containers with plenty of hides.

If you go witha large cage like the one you are thinking, make sure you put in plenty of hides, fake plants and other 'cover' as ball pythons are normal secretive snakes.

36X60X24 is MUCH too large an enclosure for any sized ball python, ball pythons prefer smaller environments. Many ball python owners/breeders (myself included) keep their adult ball pythons in rubbermaids that measure 23X16X6 (Rubbermaid #2221) or in the larger underbed model #2119-87 that measures 34X16X6. I would also do some more research on ball pythons because the websites that gave you the information you have are not the ones you should be taking their word on. Good luck.
