IS this a toad?

Living in this town for 4 1/2 years now, and finally this year been seeing Spring Peepers. (NJ). This morning my hubby finds this little guy in a box. I know its not a Spring Peeper, no X.
But it sure doesn't look like a Common Toad found around here, or am I wrong?

Hope you released it, they aren't great pets. They are also known for their toxicity. You should wash your hands immediately after handling.

I live and grew up in NJ...(25 years). I used to catch those guys when I was little. Don't know anything about them, but they are pretty common. Be careful, they like to pee in your hand.

What a great find! E. Spadefoots are rare in my state (MA). Was the froglet found in an open or wooded area?

LOL! My neighbor came knocking at my door at 11 PM last night, with 2 of them in a bucket, said they were all over the road. Took a walk out there with a flashlight, and they are hopping all over the place!
