Raising hatchlings without crix??

dragonlady1954 Aug 09, 2003 09:22 AM

Have any of you raised hatchlings without crix?? I know of a very reputable breeder who does and I am very tempted to try to do it as well. What do you all think?? My hatchlings still run from the crix right now.

I wish I knew..... As far as I have gotten with my babies are prekilled crix. I have Ectotherm and also Repcal pellets... My adults chow on either of those, but I can't get the babies to eat enough to sustain them.

I would like to hear how people raise them crix free also!

Mine are all cricket free. I put enough Repcal pellets to cover the salad. Most of them will go and just eat pellets.

I do however feed tiny tiny mealworms about every 2-3 days (in small amounts).
I finally got my Superworm colony going so for the larger juveniles, I give small supers.
For the adults, I give 2-3 Supers every 2-3 days. I was feeding 5 Supers every day but when my female stopped laying, she started plumping up. I have now cut back.

The babies start off smaller than others until about 9 - 12 weeks, then they shoot up.

I start mine from meal one and they have no problem eating them, in fact, like I said,, some tend to prefer the pellets.

Hope that helps

I have been feeding my hatchlings (3-7 days) a formula 3 times a day but have put greens/pellets in the cage every morning. I want to cut down on the formula because I think they wont even try the greens/pellets if they are not hungry. How long can I safely keep from feeding them the formula to try to get them hungry enough to eat the pellets etc.??
