my ball python hasnt eaten!

emzy Feb 22, 2006 09:30 PM

Hi my name is Emily and I have a ball python. I got her (possibly a he) from a pet store. It was very dirty and I saved her life. She had a respiratory infection and that was treated over 2 months ago. I offer her food every week and have had problems in the past with my other ball python going off eating but not for this long. She has gone almost 3 months and I am starting to become worried. She shed and defeciated but will still not eat. I have tried everything. Can anyone help?
This is very frustrating.

I have a adult male for quite a while and on two seperate occasions he did'nt feed, the longest time was five and a half months. The only thing I can suggest is to keep offering food on a regular basis, it worked for me also this time of year their metabolism slows down. I hope this is at least some help.

how old is the python? does he look emacipated or dehydrated? what exactly have you tried to get him to eat?

what is his cage setup like and temps?

more information will make it easier to suggest what to do next. if he is loosing weight and looking skinny, you will have to take him to a vet and try tube feeding him to get his strength. if they get too far along in starvation, it is very difficult, sometimes impossible to get them to bounce back. it's great you have worked this hard so far to save him.

Well I dont now exactly how old she is but she is almost 4 ft long so Im guessing older. She is very active when I have her out. Other wise she stays in her hiding spot which is cork bark. Her temperature is at 85-90 during the day and 65-70 at night. She has sticks to climb and leaves around. I have a water dish that goes down in water quite a bit every other day. I also have a waterfall on that I try to keep on for only a few hours during the day because I am afraid of too much humidity. I have a boa that is realativly the same length but does not weight nearly as much. My boa is eating every 5 days, and the python has not eaten ... with me.. for 3 months now. Before then, the pet store told me that she was eating every tuesday. I am now sure that this was a lie. I have tried feeding her different colours and sizes of rats ... even smaller mice. Everything except a gerbil. I have tried feeding in the cage... in a box(thats how I feed my boa). I have tried dangling it, leaving it in the cage over night. Nothing seems to entice her.
Like I said. she shed and deficiated... but her shed was in pieces even thought I kept the humidity up.
