I have recently been given a ball python from a pet store. He is recovering from Scale Rot. I have noticed when i hold him little shimmers of scales come off. Should I take him to a vet or not.

Taking him to a vet certainly won't hurt, as long as the vet is experienced with snakes. However if the scale rot is already getting better, it may be fine without an appoint to the vet. Keeping the cage clean and dry will let the scale rot go away on it's own. When I say dry I mean giving the substrate time to dry out completely while maintaining the humidity levels required by ball pythons. (ie let the substrate dry between mistings to raise humidity)
