I have noticed two gray, round, flat things under his scales on his under bellie. They are also in two different locations. Does anyone have any idea what this is
No clue what this can be, how big are these grey things? If they were dark and very small, I would say they are mites but never heard of grey flat things. Unless it's just natural pigmentation under the scales or the scale rot spots you mentioned before. Could also be a minor burn that has healed or in the process of healing, or start of a blister? A picture would make it easier to identify.
Being a new snake it may be a good ideal to just take him to a vet for an examination. But if the snake is eating fine, pooping fine and otherwise healthy, it may be fine to just observe the snake and see if the spots get worse or disappear. Deffinitely keep him isolated from your other snakes.
Thank You for your help, I have since found out that they are ticks. What do I need to do to solve and remove this problem for good. Such as what should I do in regards to it's cage and also am having trouble finding what I should be keeping the humidty levels at and how to keep it there. Thank you for your help and response
For ticks and mites, best way to remove them is buying a can of Prevent a Mite. A complete cleaning and sterilization of cage before applying Prevent a Mite is a good way to start.
Get a pair of tweezers, a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. Use the q-tip to apply alcohol onto the ticks, then take them off gently with a pair of tweezers. Thoroughly clean your cage/terrarium with a 5% bleach solution and replace all of the bedding.
What are you using for bedding? I believe cedar is recommended get it from a pet store not a home and garden place. Or use astroturf (fake, plastic grass, home hardware) or paper towel or newspaper until you can be sure that all the ticks are gone.
cypress was the recommended bedding NOT cedar. either way, I prefer not to use any bedding that's in chunks. something more sheet-like is easier to monitor bowel movements, clean and cheaper to replace.
