just a silly little question

ikke Aug 09, 2003 11:20 AM

I've had my gtp now for 2 weeks.. he is about 4 months old.. and well... he has come out of its enclosue but I am kinda afraid to pick him up..

not for stiking but I am afraid I'll hurt him :s I know this sounds silly and I dont know why I feel that way... maybe because he's so little.. I also have 2 ball pythons but I def. dont have that problem with them..

can someone tell me whats the best way to pick him up? because he really likes to get out in the evening ..

till this time I kinda build something up.. so I dont have to pick him up and he just gets on my hand by himself..

hope this makes sense to anyone..

(ps its not that I want to "pet" him or anything..he just comes out of his enclosure somtimes.. and well somehow he needs to go back in there :P)

I use a little pocket snake hook for babies. I would'nt reccomend handling them at such a young age.

I am not sure I completely understand your post so forgive me if my interpretation is erroneous...
It is very unlikely that he will ever go on your hands on his own. They seems more interested in "attaching" themselves to objects with their tails than going onto your hand. One way to dislodge him is to gently tickle him from underneath with a small hook or your finger (watch out for the bite)Soon he will try to get away from the tickeling and will loose patience and move away (this sometimes may take several minutes...)Once he starts moving, you can reach underneath him and gently lift him up with one hand. Watch out because the tail is still holding tight at that time and you could easily break it. Then you have to convince him that your hands are safe or give him another object to move on (ie another stick that you hold at a certain distance from him so he can just reach him with his upper body. As soon as he gets 2 solid points of contact, he will unwrap his tail and you can move him safely back into his enclosure.
Try to fix his enclosure as soon as possible, if he spends his time out of the cage he may get sick quickly (most of the time it is too dry and too cold for a GTP)and also the fact that you can esily loose him...
