One of my neighbors went on a trip to Mexico and on their way back a little gecko hitched a ride on the trailer all the way from Mexico to California. They gave the gex to me. How do I care for it? What kind is it? Please click on the below HERE to see photos of him. He is in the bearded dragon folder thing.

Mediterranian gecko (often called house gecko). Temperatures of 80-88 and humidity at around 60 are preferred. Feed it micro crickets (2 week old crickets), about 3-7 every other day and possibly baby food if it will take it. Get a minimum of a 10 gallon tank. The taller the better, they like to climb on the glass. Provide vertical hiding spaces. Mist enclosure twice daily since they lap water off the side of the glass. Rarely drink still water from a dish.

What about substrate? Can I use that green carpet stuff?

Sure it looks like crap though Just make sure you have enough in there to hold up the humidity. Cork bark holds it very well and so does bark substrate thats why most use it. Its not bad to use the carpet but if your humidity stays at 45 all the time you will need to get dirt or bark to hold in moisture.

I have cork bark left over from my red eyed tree frog cage. I will use that.

all I can say is that it is one of the many species of house geckos.I would set it up in a tropical ten gallon enclosure with plenty of hiding spots a low wattage basking light and small insects for food.also mist the enclosure 2-3 times a day.here are a few web sites that have care sheets on these geckos

petsmart.com
centralpets.com

hope this info helps out
