Worried about my leopard gecko!!!

Stefaran Aug 09, 2003 12:08 PM

Hey,
I have a 2 year old male leopard gecko that was up until a few days ago kept on crushed walnut(now he is on paper towels). It has been several days since he has pooped, but he has eaten some mealworms or crickets everyday! His tank has a nice warm side and a cool side, he is active and seems to be doing ok except he isn't pooping. I looked at his belly and did not see any blotches or any indications of swelling. Today and yesterday I sat him in a warm water bath for a few minutes and tried rubbing his belly a little.
Please, anybody with any ideas let me know! I am very worried about my gecko!
I also live in a small town and there are no reptile vets anywhere in this area!

there is not much you can do really...just keep up with the warm soaks (once or twice a day) and if he is healthy other than this, stop feeding him for a bit until he goes to the bathroom. Good luck!!!

The first Leopard gecko I had had that problem. And it was because I didn't read up on them and just got it. Well I wasn't dusting her crickets w/calcium and therefore she wasn't getting strong bones. Well I took her to the vet b/c she was eating then she stopped all of a sudden well her belly was fat. She had fecal impaction. And then the vet took a flashlight and shined it through her jaw. I was so mad at myself for getting an animal and not doing research first. Well her bones were like rubber, the vet pushed her mouth a little and I thought it was going to break! She had to be put to sleep for that...I cried and cried....Well the vet also said too , that the substrate she's in she could swollow something and get impacted and cause them not to go. So I don't know if this helps any or not but my case was a little simular and I had to take mine to the vet. If you don't have a rep. vet around maybe you could call one and see if they can give you advise over the phone. I hope your gecko will be ok.

Just to update you, I realizied my leo had been climbing on top of his hide box and pooping down the side. He was hiding all his poop..LOL
Anyways, thanks a lot for all the input.
