well i saw in kmart, there was a giant bag of something i think it was called red ceder chips or somthing. is that a good substrate for my russian?

Cedar contains oils that are irritating to your tortoises skin, eyes, etc. A better choice would be cyprus or aspen mulch. I use a mixture of topsoil and sand, its cheap and easy to clean. My torts like to dig in it.

I know you are just finding info befor you do the wrong thing, but we herpers shopuld never use cedar for anything. It isn't even good to use for your feeders (mice and rats), if they are intended to be used as food. Very bad stuff!!
