terrarium pic... Advice? Suggestions?

princessmantisus Aug 09, 2003 12:44 PM

Hello... I have a couple questions... I have some lichen in my terrarium. Would this be a problem for dart frogs? I can remove it, if it will be. I put rocks in the fountain thing so the frogs couldn't accidentally drown. I think I am going to try to grow some plants in some of the rocks. This tank has a false bottom. I am still tinkering with the heat and need to put up a background... but if anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate them. Thanks!!!! Sorry if the picture thing doesn't work... Its my first time trying this : )

Very impressive! I love the waterfall. As for a background, I would suggest cork panel (of course) but since you already have your tank planted, this might not be possible. If this is the case, I would suggest a black plastic background taped to the back of the tank on the outside of the glass. It's cheap, easy to attach, and gives the appearance of depth to your tank. Hope this helps and good luck!

I planned on black paper background : ) Or something dark... that will cover up the ugly cords and ugly heater.

Lichen won't cause any problem with your frogs. It may not live for long in the terrarium, though. Lichens are a symbiotic association between an algae and a fungus. Individual kinds are adapted to pretty specific exposures to moisture, humidity and sunlight. I've never been able to keep any of them long in a terrarium.

That's a nice looking little jungle you built.
