Pink Baby Gecko

Critterguy Apr 28, 2005 07:56 PM

I have one male leucistic leopard gecko, and two 'regular' females. Because they were aquired from someone throwing them out. I have no idea of the genetic heritage of the femails except they both have dominant genes for 'regular' colouration.

Anyway...the females got prego (big suprise) and my first egg has hatched. The baby (less than 24 hours old) is pink. As pink as....well.....a pinky mouse! No other markings at all. However, all the other photos I see of baby geckos have young with bands and spots. Are these aquired with age? I saw a photo of one with half it's body out of the egg and even it had stripes.

Could this be the males leucistic genes coming out? So it's possible that the female is hypo for the leucistic genes also?

Help here would be great. Thanks all!

I dont breed Leopards or own any, but im 99.999999% sure that they hatch out with the bands, and if it is that pink, it is a "blizzard lizard" which i think is the true leucistic, but if it was the other leucistic it would have patterning i think........i bet his 2 females are hetero for leuc. because normally someone that is into reptiles and want to be cost effective and produce morphs will buy a male morph and then females that are het for that morph. Well anyways....good luck with your geckos and im happy you saved them!
