jumping beardie

dza00 May 15, 2005 02:10 AM

My beardie has always been really jumpy but i think its getting worse lately. She likes to rub her beak against the glass and try to climb up the wall. I thought it was the cage at first but when i take her out she tries to climb up the house walls. She even made it up a whole flight of stairs hehe.
My question is how do I change my cage to remedy this problem? I have a few rocks in it right now. It's about 3.5' x 1.5' maybe a little smaller. SHould i get it a branch to climb on? Was thinking i need a bigger cage but my brother has a similar sized one for 3 beardies.

Bearded dragons do like to climb, and if she is trying to climb the walls of her cage and your house, it is obvious she wants something to climb. The cage you have is small for a single bearded dragon (and way too small for three dragons). A single adult bearded dragon should be in a tank at least 4'x2'x2' in size. Bigger is better.

With a larger tank you have more room to include branches for climbing and basking, maybe a ramp or hammock etc.

Mine did this a lot too when i got her. It isn;t neccessarily because she isn't climbing enough, he just wants to climb to be at the highest basking area. It's their instinct, and i got mine a lizard hammock, driftwood, and i haven't had the problem.
