Same Family - Different coloration. Different sex - Different body Structure.

WillHayward Jul 19, 2005 11:00 PM

I have to 9 week olds, bother and sister, from the same mother so I was told.

The male is quite yellow, tan, light brown. He has quite a round body.

The female is grey, brown, even black-ish. At first I thought it was because she would shed, but she did for the most part and the colour did not change. She is more elongated and always has some skin wrinkles even though she seems to be eating anough.

Does anyone have any possible explanations?
Ill post a photo asap.

It is normal to have a range of colorations between bearded dragons of the same clutch.

hey, i have 2 beardies from the same mother and father, and they look completely different, my female is orange-ish and my male is light gray. but i have a question that maybe you can help me with, my male (landon) is losing some of his scales, they just kinda peel off like a scab, even when hes not sheading. do you know what that could be from?

if your dragon is sheding scales in the way you describe, I would take it to a vet and have tests done. It could be some sort of bacterial infection, fungus (yellow fungus disease? though I don't think so, as I never heard it causing scales to peal off like that), scale rot or something else. Could also just be normal shedding. Deffinitely worth talking with a qualified reptile/bearded dragon vet, to make sure nothing serious is happening.

Lack of Calcium.

You should be coating your crickets in Calcium powder a few times a week. AND you should be feeding your crickets Calcium enriched food as well. (Some dog foods, fish food flakes and Cricket Jellows)

You should correct this ASAP as those scales and spikes will NOT grow well again.

i do use a calcium suppliment its called rep-cal in a white container with a pink label.landon eats a balanced diet of mixed greens, kale, veggies, fruit(pretty much everything but ice burg lettuce). his scales have been doing this since he was just 2 months old.
