Beardie's Weight?

newguy598 Aug 09, 2005 10:33 PM

Lately I've noticed that one my female dragon's has been growing, only problem is it's out in the belly. Basically she's fat. I've cut her cricket and silkworm intake in half and I have been feeding her crickets every third day. She has fat bubbles behind her front legs, but honestly I've never seen her happier. What should I do to trim her down a little? Oh and she is only about a year old and almost 500grams. Can this be life threatening??

500g isn't overly heavy for a bearded dragon. It really depends on how long she is. Nice fatty deposites behind the forearms, on the head and base of the tail is alright, providing they are not huge. For an aduld dragon, she should be getting greens every day, with crickets (or other insects) 2-3 times a week only. Unless she is gravid, in which case, having extra protein before and after laying eggs is good. Pictures will be useful to.
