Crestie havingTrouble Shedding

cool_guy28_ca Aug 16, 2005 12:56 AM

I recently have aqcuired a Crested gecko. I got him from a house where he was being neglected so it wasn't the most planed move. I have brought him from the city to my house. He doesn't look to bad he needs a little more to eat but his bones look good and he was being fed i just don't think a full balanced meal. I fed him baby food mixed with mineral i have on hand last night and this morning and have offered him some butterworms with no luck. when i saved him he was being kept in a horizontal set-up with crushed coconut in the bottom and one stick appropriate for a beardie not a crested. i have set him up in a 20"x12"x24" (lxwxh) aquarium with a bening vine and a potted schefflra and a potted Philodendron so he has something to hide in. i have chosen to use paper towel in the bottom for now until i know hes ok. the problem i and having is when i got him he was shedding and he still is i think he is having problems shedding and cant get free of his old skin i sprayed him well when i got him and today i gave him a little soak (because i didn't know what else to do) but if that doesn't work i was hoping some one else might have and idea and quicker the better. he was having problems walking as his feet were kind tied to his body. i cut off the hanging shed attaching them and hes walking a bit better but he looks tired and i don't know how much energy hes got left. his calcium sacs look good and he looks in pretty good shape his tail is just a little thin and i think if i cant get him threw this shed and better cared for he might pull threw. so any help would be more than welcome and greatly appreciated.
thanxs jason

The best way I've found to help my vresties shed is to give them a moist hide. I have and old baby wipe container with a hole cut in the top. I have it filled with sphagnum moss and I give that a heavy misting every two or three days (depending on the amount of use) and as of yet I have never had a problem (knock on wood). I also try to use either room temprature or slightly higher water just to keep overall temps constant. Hope this helps.
