how high are iguana UV requirements

mynewbaby Oct 16, 2005 01:50 PM

I am on the WWW.LLLreptile.com website that a very nice person on here recommended to me and I am looking for a UVB bulb for my iguana. I was wondering which one would be better the Exo Terra Repti Glo 5.0 UVB bulb which is for reptiles with high uv requirement UVA (30%) and UVB (5%) or i was looking at the exo terra repti glo 8.0 UVB bulb and it has 33% UVA and 8% UVB what do you guys think? If you have any other suggestions please inform me about them also.

Thank-you

Iguanas have a high requirement for UVB, so I suggest getting the 8.0 one. Or, you can use a mercury vapour bulb, just make sure it is at least 18" above your iguana, as it can cause problems if lower.

can too high of an amount of UVB rays be harmfull to a iguana. because the one that is 8.0 is for desert lizards and the one that is 5.0 is for tropic and sub- tropical lizards, so could the 8.0 be too strong for my iguana or is there ever too much UVB and UVA?? :S

the difference between those two bulbs is not enough to be a concern for your iguana. Mergury vapour bulbs put out UVB in much higher amoungs, something like 50 units.
