Moths as food

dogs Aug 09, 2003 01:14 PM

I did not have any bugs left for my Reptiles so I went out side by the lights and cought a few moths just to see if they would like them. And the answer is yes my cham and tokay just love them. Soon as my Cham sees it she runs as fast as she can go and grabs it but whith every thing else it takes her so long to eat it. So does any one else feed Moths to there animals.

I do catch moths for my cham, however, I am very cautious about it. The common brown moths seem to be fine and I shie away from any colored ones. You really don't know which ones are bad tasting or perhaps poisonous. You are also taking the chance that they may have pesticides or parasites on them. My cham likes cabbage white butterflies and their larva. I planted some cabbages expressly for these caterpillars and it works out perfectly. He loves them! Japanese beetles and June bugs are not on his list but he does like wood lice (also known as pill bugs).

Hope this helps.

I feed moths to mine when i catch them. As long as no pesticides are used in your area they are fine..

just because you don't spray your yard does not mean a neighbor does not spray his.
