Reptile Supplementation

mouze168 Dec 02, 2005 01:48 AM

I am curious to find out what everyone is using out there for reptile supplementation ( Chameleons are one of the most tricky ones, so im posting here )

There is so much stuff out there now, and Im hoping to hear some opinions, ideas, comments, or documented evidence that i am having such a hard time to find.

There is Reptivite, Repcal, Minerall, T-rex (sandfire) lines, jurrasi pet and another half dozen common ones out there...

Any replies/posts would be greatly appreciated.

The first three kinds you mentioned are the three most often recommended on the forums and other locations I have seen. As reptile nutitional needs are not fully understood, nobody really knows exactly what quantity each individual species needs of each vitamine and mineral.

Only safe thing to do is lightly dust (not coat the insects, they should look lightly frosted, not battered in the dust) insects before feeding to the reptile. How often depends on the reptile's needs and age. In general, hatchlings and juveniles need more frequent dustings than adults. For Chameleons, 2-3 dustings a week is fine.

I use HerpCare products, by Mardel. They've been around a long time, originally started with fish food etc. They know their stuff and I have had my female veiled for coming up on 6 years now, which seems pretty good. HOWEVER!! I have never had successful breeding on this stuff, and am thinking of switching to Minerall.

I have used nothing else but HerpCare....Calcium, Calcium w/ D3, and the Multivitamin one.

I would recommend it, and I've heard good things about Miner-all, which is why I will be switching to that.
