crested gecko shedding

magamus Jan 31, 2006 07:55 PM

i have a nice baby crested gecko (about 1.5 months old) and i've been noticing that he is getting duller. i've been trying to check out info on shedding, but am not sure if that is the usual process (like is he supposed to get duller in color?). the temperature is at about 75 day/70 night. i mist the enclosure about 2-3 times daily. am i worried over nothing, or does my baby have a problem? i am not sure when his last shed was..

when crested geckos are getting close to shedding, they tend to 'grey' out. The sort of look like a thin film of white or grey has been washed over them, or diluted milk. An actual darkening of the pigmentation is normal, as crested geckos do vary their coloration. Babies can be reddish to start then when adult be much darker or even lighter and may not even have any red tint left. Though not has drastic in change as chameleons, crested geckos do go t hrough a lighting and darkening phase throughout the day and night. Often they are more brilliant in coloration at night and paler during the day when sleeping.

If your gecko is otherwise healthy, eating his food and moving about at night, there isn't anything to worry about.
