Making a new Chameleon cage, have a few questions

tabernakal Feb 02, 2006 01:35 AM

I have a 1 year old veiled chameleon and need to make a new cage.I was thinking on a pretty big cage, like 24" deep, 36"wideand 60" high.

For plants on the walls i'm going to use photos and spyder plants.
For the floor ones i'm going to use hibiscus and fucos plants.
Subteraine is going to be carpet.
I'll have vines and branches all over too.

Should i use a fogger and/or a watterfall?
And for lights and heat pads what should i use.

Tell me what you guys think and what i should modify

Hello. That size or bigger would be good. Careful what you use for construction. Some woods irritate skin (especially cedar) and chicken wire / hardware cloth can hurt toes.

Hibiscus is a great choice.
I recomment against the carpet. How about a couple green towels? easier to clean.

I dont think a fogger is necessary, but it wont hurt. A waterfall is a bad idea - bacteria grow in them, especially if poop falls in the water. Better to use drippers and misters with clean water every day.

Heat pads are not necessary. You need a spot light for warmth and it is critical to use a full spectrum light for the UVB, like a reptisun 8.
