New here, just saying HI!

Hi, I am a newbie when it comes to forums. I have 1.1 Green Iguanas. Female (3.5 years old) is trogdor, male (2 years old is rex). They get along fine most of the time and only show fighting during breeding season because Trogdor is a dominant female. Anyways just introducing myself. Also, how do you make signatures and all that junk? I am not used to this type of forum.

welcome to the kingsnake.ca forums.

to make signatures etc, you need to look near the top right of the screen, right underneath where is says 'canada' in red letters. you will see My Account. click on there and you will be able to change your password and other info about your account, and set up a signature.

if you want to post pictures, near the top center of the screen, there is a group of links to various areas of the site. look for photo gallery. you can upload pictures into the photo gallery for free, up to 4mb total. once you have pictures upload, everytime you create a post, at the bottom you will have an option to include a picture with your post. use the preview button to make sure the picture does show. use the Tools and Toys link at the lower right corner of the window you type your message in, to learn how to do other things with your post, including posting multiple pics or links.

the FAQs link also will give you additional information.

i myself don't own any iguanas but do find them fascinating lizards. they were my first choice to get as my first lizard pet years ago once i moved out of my parents home. but after doing alot of reseach on green iguanas online, i realized that they were not suitable for the first time herp owner so took a bearded dragon instead. i don't even have the bearded dragon anymore, had to sell her when i moved to a different city and had to stay with friends till i found my own place. but, i still do want to get a green iguana once i purchased my own house and have room to properly house such a large lizard. though most likely i won't buy a baby green iguana but instead, adopt a rescue.

hope to see pictures of your pair soon.

Lovely group of greens you have there. They certainly look very healthy and happy One of these days I hope to have one of my own but just not feasible right now (small apartment + 5' iguana = no room for ME!)not to mention the by-laws in this city prohibit owning any iguana *pout* but once I get my own house, hopefully outside city limits I will deffinitely adopt a nice green iguana to share my space .

Ha, tell me about it. I have two igs and a bunch of reptiles, birds, fish tanks cramped in my room. my room i dont even sleep in because i turned my bed into a holding ground for my animals. ANyways igs are awesome, remember they are solitary, please do not make the mistake of getting two. One is hard enough but two???? HA!
Also in my pic, my large female is so dark, but really shes a nice dark green. Browner they are older, and healthier they are. Shes in breeding season right now and shes turning really nice bright green. Its funny how they only team people can see their true beauty is when they are full of hormones and are aggressive. Probably why many people misunderstand iguanaas as aggressive animals.

I deffinitely wouldn't get a pair of iguanas, not unless I was ready for the HUGE amounts of work two would be, especially if they were male and female. Would have to keep them apart to keep them breeding, or destroying the eggs if they do, or getting one or the other fixed. Deffinitely would never go two males, that would be a nightmare I am sure..when both are in breeding prime and not wanting any rivals in their turf...would need to get a separate home in another building to keep thing peaceful. I expect two females may get along but I suspect, like other reptiles that is no guarentee.

No, one thing I don't know is enter lightly when buying pets. I do my research and prepare myself for the responsibility before getting a pet. About 8 years ago when I first decided I did want to get an reptile for a pet, green iguanas was my first choice but after researching on the net and learning how big iguanas could get, how they are not the easiest lizards to care for, not realy the beginner's best choice for their first reptile etc. I decided to try something a bit more newbie friendly.

Now with a few years of reptile care under my belt, I do want to get a green iguana, but going to wait till I buy myself a house. A one bedroom apartment is a bit small for me, all my current pets and a 5' long green iguana (not that it would necessarly be that long when I first get one, but since I do want to get a rescue, it is not likely to be little).

well the thing is, when i was looking around at an animal shelters, many of the iguanas i saw were severely malnourished and the oldest and biggest iguana i saw was a 4 feet long (14 SVL) male at 10 years of age. So the sizes you can expect from small to large. I really want to rescue all of them but i dont have the room and the time. And yes, i keep them together. My female is spayed (she developed infertile eggs this january, only to reasborb them), spaying helps them live longer and also prevents unnecessary breeding. And yea right now they are not getting along, so they are separated and each have their own basking station. Feeding i keep together and they have no problems sharing the food. Mine poo like 4 times a day each, so yea theyre well fed. They get breakfast, lunch and dinner lol.
So what herps do you have now?
