Some people try it. It can be done... I hear it's kind of hard, most of the time it doesnt work, or the eggs turn out infertile and such.

This post below-> http://forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=8120,8120 Is of a ReticxBurm if I'm correct.

I dont really like hybrids.. Most people don't.

I bet some other people on here know more about hyrbids..

it happens the offspring often are known borneo bateaters, it kind of does mess with the genetics, sometimes as many as half the clutch will not survive, the rest turn out healthy but are usually considered an undesireable snake.

REALLY....not too sure about your statements validity...

BrianSmith May 23, 2003 03:32 PM

Actually, most of the bat eaters I have seen I found to be kinda ugly. I have only seen two that I like and one is yours. The rest just resembled skinny yellow anacondas to me. Yuck! But yes,. yours is beautiful. I hear they go for 2000 pounds in Germany, lol.

Yes it is possible. I am trying to figure out who had the first cptive bred borneo bat eatters. A guy a met a couple yrs ago came to my house looking to buy a chinchilla from me. He found out i had snakes and that was all we talked about. I asked him if he had ever seen a retic / burm cross. He siad yes and that he sold the 2 snakes to a guy that COULD OF produced the first captive bred bat eatters. I had just met him and thought yeah rigt. He said he had pics of them. I asked if i could stop by and see his collection. I went over to his place a few weeks later. He said, do you want to see the pics of the hybrids. I said yes. He got out his photo album and sure enough there was about 4 or 6 pics of hybids.
He stated to me that he sold the snakes to a guy named Albert Kellyum, not a big breeder, just a guy with snakes. The male was a retic and the female was the burm. Scott said the guy put the 2 snakes in a huge cage with other snakes. A few weeks later Albert called Scott and said the 2 snakes you sold me are breeding. Scoot did not believe him and just said let me know if you get eggs from them.
A couple months later the guy called Scott and told him the snake
laid eggs. But they were not right. Scott said what do you mean they are not right. Scott went over to Alberts, To find the eggs in extremly bad condition. The temp was to hot and the vermiculite was soaking wet. Scott told me you could see puddles of water in the vermiculite. He took the best looking eggs of the bunch and set them up properly.
Albert called Scott awhile later and said some of the eggs hatched. Scott said only about 4 or 6 survived. That is when he took the pics of them.

This happened in the early 80's. Around 80 or 81.He told me this story while i was at his place, but i was more interested in his snakes and lizards. So i did not listen well. Then he told me the same story on the phone about a month ago.

I thought this might be interesting

This is a link to a post that Dave Barker made a while back. Has some very interesting info on the origin of the Bateater.
