Tokays Baby food

antonm Aug 09, 2003 01:30 PM

Anyone here try feeding their tokay baby food? I just got some for mine and put it in a little dish on his log. He came up to it, stared directly at it for like 15 seconds and then dipped his face in and out really quickly. He promptly licked it off and got insanely mad at it and started barking then ran off into his log hideout. Have you guys had any luck with that? I know its not a main diet but as a treat maybe.....

I might start breeding them if I can get a nice female. I hear its really easy and the eggs can hatch right in the tank. Pet stores get them for 7$ and mark them up from there. A decent price to see at a shop is 20-30 depending on size, CB, etc. Online you can find one for 15 or so but I wouldnt look for the cheapest. Since theyre overall cheap I would actually try and find the most expensive one (shouldnt be more than 35 unless its an albino) since they would probably be the healthiest. Thats just my .02 though.

Ive tried the baby food and a few other things. never been able to get any of my Tokays to eat anything that didnt move. one exception, i find both my females with white powder around their mouths all the time. they love that calcium dish.

thanks.sometimes they will have them at reptile shows as 4-5 inch long babys for 25 dollars.how big of a tank does a adult pair of tokays need.In a book I have called tokay geckos and related species(I believe this is the title)by sean mckeown and jim zaworski says they only need a 20 gallon high to breed and live in.just wondering.

i kept mine when i first got them(6 inches) in a 29g tall. They quicky out grew it within a year. a 20 is wat to small for a pair. it could work for a while depending on their size. if you want healthy tokays and want to breed them id be looking at a 70t at least.

I kept mine in a 20 high when I got it. At the time it was about 7 inches and it grew at least 2 inches within a month (shows what non-pet shop attention can do). I was planning to upgrade at that point but this guy gave me a tank 18x18x48 (60-70 gal?) so I'm happy.
