KINGSTON WHIG-STANDARD (Ontario) 09 May 06 Better luck this time for gecko: Missing Lucky is replaced with new lizard (Ian MacAlpine )
Luck may have run out for Lucky the gecko.
The small tropical lizard, part of a species gaining popularity as a pet, was one of four exotic animals that survived a fire last summer at Roy's Pet Shop on Middle Road.
When Traci Minaker-Silver heard Lucky needed a home after the fire, she and her eight-year-old son, J.D., were willing to add Lucky to their extensive list of household pets.
They also own 10 donkeys, seven horses, two goats, three dogs and seven cats.
Soon, Minaker-Silver decided to move Lucky and his aquarium into the main greenhouse at Minaker's Flower Centre, of which she is a part-owner.
"We thought the greenhouse would be ideal for him," said Minaker-Silver.
But Lucky has been missing from his aquarium since late April.
Since geckos are unable to climb glass, Minaker-Silver concludes that Lucky was stolen from the uncovered aquarium.
She's concerned about the lizard's well-being: it must live in a heated area and feeds only on bugs. J.D. is also worried about it, she said.
"The poor kid is missing the gecko."
She added that the gecko was becoming popular with the Minaker's customers. "People came in every day to see him."
Lucky is about 15 centimetres long and has yellow and lavender colouring.
While she hopes for his return, Minaker-Silver recently purchased another, much smaller gecko to occupy the tank.
She now keeps it close to her work station and is able to keep an eye on him.
The smaller lizard has been named Lucky Jr.
Anyone with information on Lucky the gecko can call Minacker-Silver at the Minaker's Flower Centre at 542-2864.

Sorry to hear the loss...what kind of gecko is lucky? is it possibly lucky is infact the type of gecko that will climb glass(wich many, many do).If so find out if its an arboreal species. It could be at the roof during the day and may come out at night when no one is there. If its not a glass climbing type have a look around the floor in the grren house for fecies since a lot of geckos will pick the same spot daily. If you can find that spot, moniter it for fresh looking fecies. If there are fresh ones then Lucky is rely Lucky.maybe even place a small containers or wax or meal wroms around at verious heights throughout the green house. *Make sure to put them in a dish the cant climb out of. Moniter these dishes and notice if any worms are missing each morning.

Hope this helps, good luck(y). Keep in touch and let me know if any of my ideas give you success!

*If you do find lucky make sure to take him/her to a reptile vet asap since calcium and nutrition levels may be low!
