arrow frogs in ONTARIO

buzzyone Jan 15, 2004 01:28 PM

Hi everyone I am a bit new (ok really really new)to the frog game but not new to animals, I have bred finches and softbills for years and i have a saltwater reef tank. So i get the idea --Clean living quaters, good food ect.
I'm just starting to set up the tank--- you know getting there home ready.
To start i have two questions
1.)what stores in ontario sell poisin arrow frogs??? kingsnake.ca seems to have links to two.
First one in Toronto and one in Waterloo.
2.)all the plants seem to be poisonous, when i seen what you could put in the tank i almost had a stroke, if any of those plant where even near my bird - they would be soooo dead.
so what is up with that????
Thanks
Buzzyone

I just started up my own vivarium as well. I can't help you with the plants but I just bought 2 mantellas from the store in waterloo to get myself started. I talked to a guy there who has a good amount of darts and mantellas himself. He is friends with a breeder out in chatham who has some nice variety and good prices. You can get darts from several stores in southern ontario but the selection and prices aren't very good. I've been shopping around and you can find some at stores in hamilton, mississauga, vaughn and waterloo. these stores currently only have 1-6 frogs in stock. not a very good selection. You might want to wait for the reptile show in mississauga on feb 22. I think that's when I'll be getting my own darts. If you want to email me, I'll send you a link to the breeder I was talking about.

cant help you with the frog sources (im in minnesota)
but as for the plants yes they can be really tox if you eat them or sometimes when the leaf is broken juices come out. but they are not that bad. i have philidendrons in my dart tank and it doesnt bother the frogs at all, now pesticides andother junk like that are bad, but then again we all know that hehe. just dont elt your birds get into the plants, the froggies will be fine. ^_^
