TammyC May 27, 2004 12:27 PM

i recently purchased a chinese firebelly newt and have had it for over a week, but a couple of days ago his front left leg inflated to over twice it's normal size. what's wrong! she has a set up tank half land half aquatic, crikets and newt bites but i can't get the temp below 74. but would that make her leg swell? please help , i love my newt....

You need to get the tank temperature cooler. Also unless it's a young firebelly it should have an almost totally aquatic setup. Crickets and newt bites also aren't very good food for them...try diced earthworms or frozen fish foods (like bloodworms and brine shrimp).
