Japanese Firebelly Newts

Hello All

Yesterday I purchased 4 Jap.F. Newts and 3 of them are missing either toes or entire front legs......one is missing all its toes on front leg, the other one is missing toes and hand on front arm and the third guy has almost no arm with a little white bit sticking out...(bone?). All three are still using there arm.

I know I am an idiot for not checking.....but besides that, what can I do for them. What can I expect to happen from this? I am finding that I really like these guys, quite the cuties.

They havent eatten yet, but i have offered food(bloodworms, frozen). They are not aggressive towards each other, bright eyed and somewhat active (mostly basking, except for one...swimming) and housing wise....40gallon long breeding tank, with a filter set up on driftwood to replicate a stream (softer output) there is ludwigia, hornwort, a anubis I think, and wisteria. There are 3 pieces of drift wood for them to climb on. The substrate is natural coloured gravel, there is a light and the water level is about 9-11inches. Oh temp is at about 72-74F.

The largest of these guys (the one with the missing toes) is the largest at perhaps 2-3inches.

Any help is appreciated....thanks

Wow, thats a bummer, but I hear that happens a lot from them keeping them with FB toads... But it never happened to me... You are so lucky to keep you guys in such a big tank, i am saving up for one. The limbs I am sure will grow back, although that water temp is a bit high, they might be getting stressed from that. I would suggest feeding your guys crickets and bloodworms. I know that crickets sound a bit big, thats what I said, but a lot of the time that is what they feed at the pet stores, but also give them the option of blood W. too. Mine love the blood worms. 8 P.
