Need help with Fire Newt

ReganZ24 Feb 16, 2005 11:01 AM

Hi,

I was told by the pet store for Fire-Newts to have temp from 70-80? I just read it should be 60-70...Since I got the temp. lower they have been more active and began to eat. Can anyone confirm this temp. ? It must be correct 60-70.

Aslo, is my newt a Japanese or Chinnese Fire-Belly Newt?
It is black with an orange spotted chest. I'll try to get a pic up...

Thanks

Glenn

The big difference between the two (I have found) is size. My two JFBNs are both just over 13cm long, while my two CFBN are both under 8cm.

More subtle differences are that the JFBN seems to have a more 'warty' texture. I'd suggest not deciding the species though belly markings as thay can differ greatly between newts.

Behaviour is another thing, my smaller CFBN are aggresive feeders and will investigate ANYTHING that causes ripples in the water. While the JFBNs seem to be much more shy and hide all day and only forage at night.

Hope that helps....and keep in mind this is only based on the experience with the newts I have!
