newt_guy Mar 15, 2006 10:45 AM

I noticed some small white worms about 1/2" long and smaller all over my newts tank, so i cleaned it and now 1 week later they are back again. How can i get rid of them and where are they coming from? Are they harmful to my newt?

Are these small white worms in the water only or all over the tank? I know with fish tanks (tropical fish) these worms can appear, sometimes from using old fish flakes. Not sure if these are the same type of worms, but if you are feeding fish flakes to your newts and it's rather old, clean everything up completely again and buy new fresh food. ALso make sure you are keeping the cage clean and the water at the right cleaniness for newts.

If the worms keep coming, might be a good ideal to bring some to a vet for proper identification and a fecal from your newt, to rule out parasites that could be harmful to your newt.

Thanks. They are just on the glass i see a few in the water floating but not as many. The food is brand new newt and salamander bytes. The does seem to be rejecting these new pelets though, he will eat a few but mostly spit them out.
