Bringing in toad...Beginner help?

Tianta Jul 10, 2006 07:21 PM

Hey, Just joined here because we've been having tons of toads living in our basement now that the weather is so hot for us and I have been wanting to bring on in as a pet. Into a tank and such, as I have always like them and theink they're cute.

They are simply toads that have always been here...brown and bumpy...I don't know a specific type they could be so am wondering what type of habitat and food would be best for them to keep them happy and healthy...?? I figured whatever would best match the outside around here....

First thing you should do is identify the type of toads you have in your basement. Most likely they are American Toads as they are pretty common in Canada. Then research their care online.

Most will do well in a small tank with cypress mulch or bed a beast and sphugnum moss, dampened lightly. Feed fruitflies and other small insects. That is about all I know about toad care.

Thanks so much! I think they must just be common "American toads". I know there's LOADS of them around here all spring and summer though...I'll have to see if they fit that description.

I was thinking of getting some dirt from outside with some moss, etc then having something for it to hide in and maybe a couple rocks and a water dish/pond from the pet store....?
