Hibernating ideas

wu-gwei Aug 24, 2003 05:46 PM

I do not have access to a basement nor a garage for hibernating my sliders. I would like to try hibernating them. I am thinking of building an aquatic hibernating box to put outside. I was thinking of insulating it with styrofoam. Any suggestions? I don't want the water to freeze in our -30C temp, and I would not care for trial and error.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
JJ

How about the good old refigerator method? Has worked for me for a number of years when I was an apartment dweller.

Thanks Kai... I have conidered it, but my fridge is full of food right now and does not have enough room. Furthermore, I don't think my wife will appreciate a trio of trachemys. lol []

I have been talking to people, and it looks like'if I want to hibernate outdoors, I'll need a heater and keep the aquatic hibernating box well insulated. If all else fails, I'll just have to buy another tank.

Cheers,
JJ
