Boxturtles

herpfood Nov 01, 2003 07:41 PM

Hello all,
Over the years I have had a passion for turtles, and it has been over the last few weeks that I've actually been able to live out that passion. I have always wanted a turtle but disrtactions, and different animals got in the way. I now have three rescue hatchling snapping turtles(will be released in spring, at Pionery(Provincial park, in Ontario), and they are all eating GREAT!

A pssion within a passion though are tortoises! I love tortoises, and I'd love one, but the thing is there to DARN expensive. Boxturtles remind me of tortoises and I think there cute, but I've never seen them in the petstores.

Where can you find boxturtles?
Does anyone know of breeders?
What price range do they go around?
Does anybody own them?
Other help would be appreciated,

Eastern Box turtles run about $150 in petstores in the GTA and are fairly common. They are very different from tortoises in diet, temperature requirements and personality. North American box turtles are terrestrial like tortoises, but most of the Asian box turtle species are semi-aquatic.
