moving from the U.S.

Hi.
I am considering taking a job in Calgary, Alberta. I am a U.S. citizen and currently live in Wisconsin. I have two turtles (male RES and female painted). I have had these turtles for 7 years and wish to take them with me. I am looking for information on whether I will be able to bring them with me, and what sort of documents and/or permits will be needed in order for me to bring them. I would be moving at the end of June or in early July. I would greatly appreciate any information on this topic. Thank you.

I don't t hink you will have any trouble keeping the red eared slider, but not sure about the painted. Best thing to do will be contacting the city you are moving too and ask about their by-laws (might be able to get this information from the city's webpage) Also, I would get a full vet inspection for both animals, bloodwork, fecals etc, to ensure they are completely healthy. The vet shouldgive you a form stating this..get it about a week before leaving so it's very current. You should also check the Canadian government websites for importing animals across the boarder. Ministry of Fish and Wildlife, a part of the Ministry of Natural Resources. Oh you and will want to check with the Province of Alberta site as well, they may have other laws not federally enforced. I deffinitely know you can't have pet rats in Alberta.
