RECORDER & TIMES (Brockville, Ontario) 23 July 05 Township looking at turtle warning signs
New Dublin: Elizabethtown-Kitley township may soon be helping to save the turtles.
The township will be asking its environmental and conservation and advisory committee for more information regarding turtle warning signs for the township.
Some of the most crucial areas where citizens need to watch out for the reptiles crossing the street is County Road 8 and New Dublin Road, councillors said at Monday night's meeting.
"I have no problem with (the signs)," said Councillor Jim Miller.
"I think a sign should say 'don't touch,'" said Councillor Eleanor Renaud. "I've seen people get out there and move snapping turtles off the road."
One problem with the signs is that they tend to get stolen as quickly as they're being put up, said Councillor Gordon Brundige.
The committee will be asked to look into the source of the funding and the locations where the signs are most needed, Mayor Jim Pickard said.
